Welcome Red Monkey Sports to the GGR Rocktober Event!

We are THRILLED to announce that Red Monkey Sports will be at the famous GGR Rocktober event October 18th at Malibu Creek State Park! Look for their booth and purple grips!

www.redmonkeysports.com

RedMonkey Sports grips utilize a softer silicone compound and a more advanced extrusion process than other silicone based grips.  This creates a dual density grip. The denser inside layer vibrates with the bar while the outer, more porous layer, vibrates with your hand, lending to a high vibration dampening grip.  This process is also designed to give the grip a tacky texture so they can be used with or without gloves and mitigates slippage. The grips are also designed to absorb some moisture due to the more porous and lower density of the grip. They naturally have moisture absorption properties that pull some moisture into the grip. Other silicone based grips use a hi-density silicone that doesn't allow for this.

As a company, they are very active in the mountain biking scene and promote cycling within the community.  We donate a portion of our sales to various cycling charities like 88bikes, World Bike Relief, and 50% of the profits from our "Pinx" grips are donated to various breast cancer awareness and research charities. www.redmonkeysports.com/cycling-charities

A Photo Shoot with GGR’s Wendy Engelberg and Photographer Austi V. Campbell

Did you know that one of our own GGR amazing shredders is also a pro photographer???? Well, let me fill you in and show you some of her work! May I introduce pro photographer and super fast shredder Austi V Campbell. http://www.austivcampbellphotography.com/. Austi spent the afternoon shooting me and my awesome new custom built Canfield on one of my favorite local trails.

Well…..I wasn't sure if this day was going to happen or not….I had been in bed all day with a bad cold and just had zero energy. However, my schedule is so crazy,  I knew if I didn't get my bum out of bed to do this shoot with Austi, it probably wouldn't happen in the near future. So off I went to a favorite local all mountain trail in Simi Valley.

I got there a little early to pre ride part of the trail since I had not been on it in a long time and I have a brand new bike I’m getting used to, a custom build Canfield Balance built up by my good buddy Cosmo. This was also a shoot for my sponsors who I never ride without…Kali Protectives, Petal Power, ZOIC clothing and of course, GGR: Girlz Gone Riding.

Pushing up the trail to pre ride, I was sick as a dog and thinking, I best just go up just a little ways and ride back to the car and lay down in the car until Austi got to the trail head or I won’t even make it an hour, I had a fever and was just feeling too weak.

Well, Austi got to the trail head with her awesome bike and lots of camera equipment. We headed down some single track to make our way to the trail head and decided to stop at a big slab of slick rock and some boulders for the 1st sequence of shots.

We started with some stills on top of this awesome boulder with the beautiful mountain in the background. Then she had me ride up and down this long slab of slick rock. Was already having fun even though I wasn't feeling well.

We then took a quick sequence of a descent just before the creek crossing and then started the push up the trail to get to the great corners and a couple of big slabs of slick rock. I say PUSH UP because this was no XC trail and just too steep to climb, although there are some animals who DO climb up it, I was not about to try today! It was late in the afternoon, so the lighting and scenery was pretty much perfect and hardly anyone on the trail.

We pushed up maybe a quarter mile up the trail to where the bermed turns began. Some smooth, some rocky. I was at least feeling confident about cornering since the week before I spent hours sessioning descending switch backs which was a huge help for this shoot.

As I waited at the top of each turn for Austi to set up the shot, I kept talking to myself, heavy outside foot, let it roll………my new cornering mantra. She asked me what line I was going to take, and I said The WIDEST OUTSIDE LINE!

So the cornering went well, I felt smooth and the back ground of the city and greenery was just spectacular. Now came the steep, off camber rock slabs.

The 1st shot, Austi laid right in the middle and told me to ride towards her. I laughed and told her that was NOT a good idea…I needed much more room…just in case…so she moved over a few inches to give me some more room descending.  I rode that a few times for some fun shots, and I could feel myself smiling the entire time still sick but just so grateful to be outside and doing what I love to do.

So between the different sequences when we moved, I also took some shots of Austi with my cell and let me tell you…WOW she is fast! WHAT a shredder!
Next up was the last rock slab on the trail that was steep with a very rocky, off camber entrance. Still getting used to the new bike and definitely not trusting it yet, it took me a few times riding this to get somewhat comfortable and not dab it. Once I got through the tricky entrance, I was able to let the brakes go and just ride through it. Austi of course just plowed right down it like a pro!
The last shot of the day was a water shot…now, it doesn’t rain here much, so we were lucky to get any puddles at all! She wanted a cool splash shot…well, I didn’t think this was going to happen unless someone stomped into the water just before I went through the tiny puddle. She still managed to capture a super cool shot with the water!
A huge shout out and thank you to Austi V Campbell for such a fun shoot and great memories with my bike. For all your future action shots, please contact Austi directly:
