Some HER-story on Amy:
"I started mountain biking in 2009 with my husband at the suggestion of a mutual friend based on the fact that we participated in numerous other extreme sports (snowboarding, white water kayaking, rock climbing, etc.). Before that, I think the last time I rode a bike was around the time I was 12. The learning curve was tough, figuring out many things (like shifting and braking) through trial and error until we found out about clinics. One of the first clinics I participated in was the Courageous Women of Dirt clinic with the Trail Angels at Irvine Lake, which was geared towards getting ladies racing at Over the Hump. The clinic motivated me to try racing so that year, 2012, I raced in my first mountain bike race at the OC OTH and I officially became hooked on mountain bike racing."
Since then, Amy has traveled the world racing the World Enduro Series and the California Enduro Series riding some of the gnarliest tracks in the world!
I first met Amy and her husband Thomas in Big Bear on a big group ride. I liked them both from the start and knew they would be a big part of our community once I figured out what that community looked like! Pre GGR, (in 2009 when I first met Amy and Thomas), I was still thinking about how to just meet more women to ride with, never dreaming about putting together a club and certainly not believing one day we'd turn into the largest club in the US with close to 3000 women and 7 chapters!
Over the years, I've had the great pleasure of training with Amy, racing on an endurance team with her, getting coached by her, having her be a ride leader for GGR, mentor and also being a good friend. Ladies, you are in very good hands with your new director Amy. She will show you leadership, empower you to step outside of your comfort zone and most of all ensure you have a great mountain biking experience every time with GGR.
Thomas, Amy's husband has volunteered many times over the years for GGR and is one of the most supportive people you will meet when it comes to growing the women's mountain biking community.
We are working on a time line to partner with SHARE, the OC IMBA chapter, train ride volunteers, and role out the 1st official club ride. Please stay tuned for that announcement and plan on joining us!
Let's all congratulate Amy on this new position and give her all of our support. Amy will continue GGR's mission of getting more women on bikes and ensuring women always have a great cycling experience.
If you are a woman mountain biker that rides in the OC (Orange County) please join the new OC Face Book page for all up to date news. https://www.facebook.com/groups/2101878766756160/.
